Visitor restrictions eased at SMH

July 30, 2021   ·   0 Comments

Now that the province has entered into Step 3 of the Roadmap to Reopen, Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston has updated their policy regarding visitors to the building.

The new rules went into effect on July 19.

One visitor per day, per patient, will now be permitted in the emergency department, inpatient and outpatient departments.

For in-patients, they can have one visitor daily, up to a maximum of three individuals designated as visitors. Visitors are permitted to stay each day during fixed visiting hours, from noon to 6:00 pm.

Extenuating circumstances will be managed on a case-by-case basis.

Stevenson recognizes that not all situations are the same. Special visiting time considerations

will be given for supporting obstetrical patients, parents or guardians of an ill newborn, youth, or child ages 18 and under, support of a person with dementia or cognitive impairment, those visiting palliative patients, and clergy support for admitted patients.

Outpatients will be allowed one visitor to accompany them to the clinic appointment.

For surgical patients, they will be allowed one designated support person to receive discharge instructions and help transition out of the hospital.

Current visiting restrictions will remain in place for COVID-19 positive or suspected positive patients.

Family members who have a patient in care at the hospital can contact the Patient Experience department to book a time to speak with their loved one through technology such as iPads or tablets.

All visitors to the hospital are still required to wear medical-grade masks up entry. Cloth masks are not allowed.

Visitors must wash their hands before entering and after leaving a patient’s room.

If you have any questions about visiting the hospital, you can contact the Patient Experience office via e-mail at patientexperience@smhosp.on.ca, or calling hospital extension 2310.
