Town seeks input on local cannabis operations

August 19, 2021   ·   0 Comments

New Tecumseth Town Council will hold a statutory public meeting about the Interim Control By-lay on August 25, 2021.

An interim control by-law was passed on October 1, 2020 to provide sufficient time to review and study the potential to allow and regulate cannabis operations.

There is currently a hold on all new planning applications related to the establishment of cannabis operations in specific zones.

A survey conducted by the Town asked local residents about any concerns they had regarding cannabis operations near their home.

During the July 12, council meeting several local residents took the opportunity to voice their opinions on the matter.

While some complained about the smell from cannabis operations and a negative impact on nearby homes, other residents said cannabis should be treated like any other agriculture operation in the area.

If you want to make a verbal representation at the upcoming public meeting regarding the proposed interim control by-law policy approach, you must register on-line by 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25.

You can register by visiting forms.newtecumseth.ca/Request-to-Speak-Committee.

If you would like to make a written submission regarding the by-law you must make a written request to the Planning Department, or via e-mail at: planning@newtecumseth.ca.

The meeting will be live-streamed on the Town of New Tecumseth YouTube channel.

The meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m.
