On Sat., Feb. 22, join the Museum on the Boyne Advisory Committee as they honour Mr. Peter Monahan who has contributed to the promotion of heritage of the community. Mr. Monahan is a long time re-enactor and a retired teacher, having spent 35 years teaching English, History, Law and Philosophy in Nigeria, Alberta, Toronto and New Tecumseth. He also works part time for the Museums of Mississauga as an historic interpreter and is writing a book on the Royal Newfoundland Regiment in the War of 1812. Mr. Monahan has been a long-time volunteer and historical interpreter in South Simcoe. He frequently volunteers his time and knowledge to run children’s programs at the Museum on the Boyne where he has portrayed an 1812 soldier, a voyageur and a cobbler. He is also Chair of the Friends of Historic Fort Willow.
Please join us at the Museum on the Boyne on Sat., Feb. 22 to recognize his outstanding contribution to heritage in our community as we unveil his place on the Wall of Honour. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m.
On Wed., Feb. 26, visit the Museum to learn family research tips from Karen Johnstone, owner of A Novel Idea New & Used Books in Alliston, as she presents Mending Broken Bonds – tips for family research. Karen will outline the history of adoption in Ontario from 1827 to the present day as it relates to family history research. She will also detail the heartwarming tale of how she helped Jackie Garcia, 74 of Bermuda, find her birth family in Loretto as featured in the Jan. 30th edition of the Alliston Herald. Admission is free but Karen asks that attendees make a $2 donation to the Museum.
