It was a busy weekend for the OPP as they carried out their Canada Day Long Weekend enforcement and education campaign, with a focus on aggressive drivers.

Sadly, the long weekend ended in tragedy for 2 people in OPP-policed jurisdictions. 2 people lost their lives in motor vehicle collisions, however the OPP report that there were no fatal boating or all-terrain vehicle incidents on OPP patrolled waterways and trails.

The OPP laid a total of 7,032 charges throughout the province for speeding, 98 impaired driving charges, 308 distracted driving charges and 1,593 charges were laid for seat belt violations.

While the Canada Day Long Weekend is over, the OPP is asking the public to make reducing deaths and serious injuries on roads, waterways and trails a shared priority year round
