On Wednesday June 19, at 2:15 p.m. Dufferin OPP responded to a head-on collision involving 3 vehicles on Dufferin County Rd #109 between the 7th and 8th line of Amaranth Township in Dufferin County. Dufferin County EMS and Orangeville Dept also responded.
Preliminary investigation revealed a westbound Chrysler Intrepid crossed the centre line into eastbound lane eastbound and side-swiped the left rear of a Toyota Prius. Next it had a head-on collision with a Kia Optima. The 17 year old male driver of Chrysler Intrepid and his 16 year old male passenger (both East Garafraxa, Ontario) suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Headwaters Health Centre. A third female 15 year old passenger in the Chrysler was transported by Dufferin EMS with Serious Life Threatening Injuries to Headwaters Health Centre and then by air ambulance to a Toronto area hospital.
The 46 year old male driver of the Kia Optima from Colorado, USA was transported to Orangeville with non-life threatening injuries.
OPP Technical Collision Investigators were on scene investigating and this resulted in Dufferin County 109 being closed for next 9 hours between 7th and 8th Line. It reopened at 11 p.m. on June 19.
Investigation is continuing and no charges have been laid at this time.
