Dear editor:
I am so happy for the handful of complainers that wanted the 4-way stop sign removed from the intersection of Tecumseth and Main in Beeton. This was done on the advice of an Alliston Councillor, JJ Paul Whiteside, who claimed he had complaints from Beeton residents. Why would Beeton residents complain to an Alliston councillor and a better question is why would town council listen to him? Where was Beeton Councillor Richard Norcross? Long story short, this sign which was only up for approximately four moths is now gone. No more safety and the trucks are able to speed once again and their numbers are increasing everyday. I am not talking about ones that have businesses in town – the majority of these trucks are just passing through via the “Beeton Truck Bypass”. I want the steam train tracks removed because my husband and I and our neighbours get to listen to all these trucks rumbling over the tracks night and day and their engine brakes as well. We have been in Beeton for 39 years and since moving to Main Street 15 years ago, the number of trucks has probably quadrupled. Unlike the people at Main and Tecumseth, we will not get our way no matter how much we complain! Move to the west end of Main Street and you will know what noise is, or move to the vicinity of the stop light at Main and Patterson. Not only do they have to deal with the noise and lights reflecting in their windows, they also have to deal with the trucks parked while they go in to get a coffee from the gas station. A good number of these truckers are illegally parked. Oh yes, I did see the results of an apparent poll taken asking people if they think the sign should be removed – no one asked me or numerous other people I have talked to. Didn’t even know about it until the so-called results were in the paper. What a joke!
Donna Knapp,
Beeton
Editor’s note: Our polls are conducted online at www.newtectimes.com. We do not poll people individually. With regards to council decisions, each member of council only gets one vote (of 10). No one councillor can make any decisions without the support of the majority. Further, Councillor Norcross did participate in the discussion/decision to remove the stop sign at Main and Tecumseth, Councillor Whiteside did, however, suggest it be removed.
