54 Plus Club celebrates ground breaking at NTRC

July 23, 2014   ·   0 Comments

This fall, the 54 Plus Club will have a new home at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre (NTRC) in Alliston.

Construction of the nearly $1 million expansion to accommodate the seniors started last Wednesday, July 16 and was recognized by members of council, town staff, and 54 Plus Cub members with a ground breaking celebration at the site.

The 4,000 sq.ft. addition will consist of a meeting space, activity room, a small kitchenette, washrooms and storage rooms. The facility will have a separate entrance as well as linkage to the existing NTRC facility and will be located in the northwest corner of the rec centre.

The addition was designed by James Fryett Architect Inc. and will be built by CityCore Construction Inc. The space should be ready for occupancy this November.

The 54 Plus Club is contributing $256,000 towards the project which they provided to the Town of New Tecumseth in the form of a ‘big cheque’ at the ground breaking. The balance will be funded through the Parks & Recreation Development Charge Reserve Fund.

Originally, the project had been budgeted at $680,000. Council approved the inflated cost at a council meeting in May after the lowest bid (of 73 bidders) came in over budget.
