A 76 year old Cookstown man is facing charges of Speeding and Stunt Driving, after being caught going more than 50 km/h over the limit on a residential street in Stroud on Sunday. On Sunday, June 30, at 7:45 p.m., a South Simcoe Police constable was operating radar near the fire hall on Victoria Street when he saw a vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed. As the car passed, the officer was able to clock the vehicle at 102 km/h. Victoria Street is a quiet, 50 km/h residential street. The man was stopped and charged and his car was impounded for 7 days. There were no other occupants in the car. The man will appear before a Justice of the Peace in August to answer to the charges.
