Hornets win their own pre-season tournament

They did it again. The Alliston Hornets won the pre-season Junior C tournament they host every year at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
The tournament got under way on Friday (Sept. 8) night with eight teams from the Ontario Junior Hockey League taking part to give the public the first look at the line-up for this season.In addition to the Hornets, Junior C teams from Midland, Georgina, Huntsville, Penetang, Schomberg, Port Perry, and Orillia were in attendance.
The Hornets opened the tournament with a Friday night game against the Midland Flyers. That game ended in a 2-2 tie after the teams returned for an overtime period and couldn’t come up with a winning goal.
The Hornets advanced to the semi-final where they met up with the Penetang Kings who were playing in the B pool.
Midland knocked out Port Perry in their semi-final game to set up an Alliston/Midland final game.
The Hornets claimed the title as tournament hosts with a 4-1 win in the final game.
The Hornets have just released their 2017 / 18 lineup.
Two new goalies are on the roster along with several new players this season.
Returning are last year’s top scorer, Drake Board, forward Ryan McReynolds, and defencemen, Mitch Livingston, Matt Taylor, Braydon Hogarth, as well as a few other vets who are on the line-up for this season.
The Hornets home opener will get be this Friday, Sept. 15, when they host the Huntsville Otters at the Rec Centre. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
