Beattie’s Distillers provides tour to Ontario MPs

Beattie’s Distillers was recently put under the spotlight during the Conservative Ontario MP Caucus Retreat last week.

Almost all of Ontario’s MPs toured the facility on September 17, where they had a behind-the-scenes look at how the local company’s vodka and hand sanitizer is produced.

“It’s a small business that’s working in the area but it is also tied to agriculture, so it’s a good opportunity to see what they’re doing and also showcase the innovation and what they’ve done during COVID to have hand sanitizers,” said Simcoe–Grey MP Terry Dowdall.

The retreat was hosted at the Nottawasaga Inn and MPs also had the opportunity to tour agriculture operations and other businesses in the area.

Dowdall said he’s grateful that his riding was chosen to host this year’s retreat and get Ontario’s MPs more familiar with Grey and Simcoe County.

“I’m so lucky and fortunate that they’ve come here because when I speak about some of these businesses in the House of Commons they’ll know what I’m talking about,” he said.

“It was really great this year in that, a lot of us are new MPs, so it’s great for us to meet one another. We had COVID, so we weren’t really sitting in the House that often, so it’s a good opportunity to be off site and its great team, character building.”

Many of Ontario’s MPs have similar industries in their ridings and are finding some common ground for helping them through the pandemic.

“We have to be there for our farmers, for our agriculture, for our businesses to make sure that we have something viable moving forward – show some hope,” said Dowdall.

“Moving forward, in the House of Commons… we need to make sure we have strong messages and that we’re going to represent all the people here, not just my riding but all the ridings.”
