What’s on for Christmas and the holidays this season

Still not quite back to normal after the COVID–19 outbreak, you might be interested to know what’s actually happening this holiday season.

With a few of the holiday classics, including the Santa Train at the South Simcoe Railway in Tottenham, and the Sugar Plum Fair at the Nottawasaga Inn still switched to the “off” position, good cheer is still in the air. Here is a comprehensive list of ‘What’s Still On’ in New Tecusmeth, leading up until Christmas:

November 20: Rotary Club of Alliston Night Lit Santa Claus Parade, 6 p.m. start, route along Victoria Street, starting at Banting Memorial High School, south on King Street, west on Yonge Street and ending at SportCheck.

November 5 – December 17: Seasonal Market at The Gibson Centre. The Gibson Centre, along with the coordinators of Seasonal Wrapsody, have transformed the venue into a seasonal marketplace showcasing beautiful creations made by local artisans. ⁠⁠The Seasonal Market is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

November 14–28: Doberman Rescue Ontario (Tottenham) Christmas Photo Fundraiser, by appointment, 20-minute sessions, booked from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., $40 per dog family. Photos will taken outdoors, weather dependant. One hundred per cent of the proceeds to Doberman Rescue.

November 20–21: Murphy’s Magical Christmas, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day. With local artisan vendors, handmade Murphy’s goodies, and of course, Santa himself, there is something for everyone at this annual outdoor event! Admission is $5 plus HST per person (ages 2+). Age 23 months or younger are free, as are 2020 or 2021 Season’s Pass Holders. Admission can be purchased upon arrival at the Farm on the day of the event (no pre-registration necessary).

This year’s event will support the OPP Nottawasaga’s Shop With A Cop initiative, which helps provide local children in need with a Christmas they will never forget while fostering positive relationships between youth and police officers. Murphy’s will be collecting monetary donations and non-perishable food items and or an unwrapped toy for the Alliston Lion’s Club Christmas Hamper program. November 26: Alliston BIA’s RURBAN Christmas Crawl, through the Downtown Core in Alliston. During this annual Moonlit Madness shopping event, stores will be open until 8 p.m. on November 26, continuing on to November 27 at 4 p.m. Special surprises “in-store” as well as festive music and giveaways.

November 27: Stuff a Bus with Landmark and FM 92. Drop-off locations in Alliston at Giant Tiger, Walmart & Zehrs from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

November 27: Beeton–Tottenham BIA Santa Claus Christmas Event in Tottenham from 3–6 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering or being part of the Santa Claus Event Committee email info@btbia.ca. Follow @beetontottenhambia for more information.

November 27: Alliston Legion Branch 171 Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at 11 Dufferin Street Alliston. Several vendors with everything from hand-made cards to knit designs. Contact Missy at 647-224-2433 for more information.

December 4: Beeton BTBIA Santa Claus Christmas Event in Beeton from 3–6 p.m.

December 4: Stuff a Cruiser with the Alliston Lions Club and the Nottawasaga OPP at Canadian Tire, Giant Tiger & Walmart in Alliston from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

December 11: Photos with Santa at The Gibson Centre from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Bring your little ones and come meet Kris Kringle in a safe, contactless manner. Children can tell Santa what they want for Christmas and take a contactless photo with him. Call 705-435-2828 to book your time slot, space is limited.

December 17: Matthews House & Songwriter’s Showcase Benefit Concert at Trinity United Church in Beeton, starts at 7:30 p.m. featuring Boreal. December 5: Everett Firefighters Association & Alliston Lions Club Annual Lion Jim Kenn Memorial Food Drive, starts at 9 a.m. and runs until completed. Red barrels of Happiness have been distributed to local businesses, churches, schools and organizations. Donations can be made at any location with a red barrel hosting a food/toy drive or at the Alliston Lions Club. Anyone wishing to donate should call 705-435-4012 ext.8 to coordinate an appointment time.

As for the Annual Sugar Plum Fair at The Nottawasaga Inn & Resort organizers wish to thank everyone for their interest, however they have concluded that due to the current gathering limitations, vaccine passport requirements and possible future restrictions they will be cancelling the 2021 Sugar Plum Fair.

“We are grateful for the support of the community, our vendors and staff and hope to welcome you back next year for the 39th Annual Sugar Plum Fair on November 12 & 13, 2022. Please accept our sincerest apologies,” reads a post on their Facebook page.
