Calls for service/pocket dials

July 25, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Over the weekend July 19-21, officers from the Nottawasaga OPP received 170 calls for service.

The storm passing through the area on Friday led to police to attend 18 calls involving dangerous conditions ranging from trees down across roadways and trees falling on hydro lines to power outages affecting traffic lights.

As a general reminder, when you approach an intersection controlled by traffic lights and the lights are malfunctioning, you must treat your stop like a four-way stop. Stop, ensure the roadway is clear, make eye contact with any other drivers at the intersection and ensure there is no approaching traffic before you proceed slowly through the intersection.

Police received twenty seven 911 calls over the weekend, with many of them being “pocket dials” or children playing with the phone, ensure you lock your cell phone when you place it in your pocket or purse.  Teach your children that 911 is for emergencies only. One of the community programs that Nottawasaga OPP offers is a 911 presentation in the area schools; this program teaches children the importance of 911 and its proper use.
