Deputy mayor, Rick Milne, has asked Town staff to prepare a report on the viability of an OLG casino in New Tecumseth.
Milne told council that he regularly witnessed buses pulling away from the Memorial Arena in Alliston (headed for area casinos) and wanted to get in on the gaming action.
Mayor Mike MacEachern said he wasn’t sure if a small sized casino was even an opportunity for the municipality.
Ward 1 councillor Bob Marrs said he wanted to know the down sides to having a casino in the community, saying, “I’ve seen some pretty nasty downsides from casinos.”
Ward 8 councillor Jim Stone wondered what size the casino would be, adding, “If it’s a small one that might not be a bad idea”.
Staff is expected to prepare a report for the next committee of the whole meeting in April.
