With no loss of life or serious injuries as a result of fire in Adjala-Tosorontio since 2009, the township fire department’s efforts at fire prevention and public education are working well according to a report from the department’s chief Wayne McIsac.
McIsacc presented council at its latest meeting with a mid-year report which detailed the department’s activities during the past six months, in particular, and the department.
He said that the department answered about the same number of calls in the first seven months of 2013 compared to 2012. Of the 179 calls answered between the beginning of January of this year and the end of July, eight were fires, 59 were medical calls and 25 were motor vehicle collisions.
Chief McIsaac noted that township firefighters trained for a total of 4,795 hours so far this year and township firefighters continue to take specialized training, in addition to regular training, for heavy equipment and agricultural machinery rescue, silo fire awareness, large animal emergency rescue and fire safety inspection and enforcement.
McIsaac said that the township fire department has continued to see improvements with the purchase of new trucks in recent years, improvements at both stations, improved radio communication and replacement of protective clothing for its members.
