Adj–Tos opposes Keenansville cell tower proposal

Adjala–Tosorontio council has reject a proposal to construct a cell tower near Keenansville in former Adjala township.
After hearing from a dozen residents at the council meeting last Tuesday night, council rejected the proposal for a 52 metre high tower at 2836 Concession Road 7.
Residents complained about the impact of the tower from both an aesthetic and public health with its use of high frequency radio waves.
Deputy mayor Doug Little said that this was Bell’s second attempt to erect a tower in the area in the past year and that he saw nothing new to support the tower.
Members of council said that the tower would still not improve high speed Internet connectivity in the southern part of the township.
“There was no attempt to place a tower in the Piper Hill area,” said councillor Sam Keenan. The lack of a proposal for the Piper Hill area also caused Mayor Small Brett to oppose the Keenansville location.
Councillors Pinto and Meadows urged the representative from Bell to consider installing fibre optic lines in the township for high speed Internet.
The proposal will now go to Industry Canada which has the final approval authority for the tower.
