It was another successful tournament for the Alliston Hornets as they hosted Junior C teams from around the province for their annual pre-season event.

A total of 12 teams from several Provincial Junior Hockey League conferences arrived in town from Thursday, Sept. 7, to Sunday, Sept. 10.

In addition to the home team, there were teams from Penetang, Uxbridge, Orillia, Port Perry, Georgina, Stayner, Huntsville, Mount Forest, Little Britain, Schomberg, and Caledon.

The tournament started on a Thursday this year, one day ahead of previous years due to concerns about ice time.

The Hornets were on the ice the first night and were up against the Penetang Kings. The Hornets won that game with a 4-0 shut-out.

On Saturday, the team was scheduled for two games.

They played the Georgina Ice first and left the ice with a 5-2 win.

Later on the same day, they faced the Port Perry Lumberjacks. That game ended with a 3-1 Alliston win.

They kept the streak alive with a 5-2 win over the Mount Forest Patriots to earn the right to go to the final.

In the final game, they were up against the Orillia Terriers. After no scoring in the first period, Orillia was on the board with the only second period goal.

Alliston managed one goal in the third period, but the Terriers banged three more home to win the game 4-1 and claim the tournament championship.

Orillia was undefeated for the tournament.
