The Alliston Hornets gave up a loss to the Stayner Siskins on Wednesday (Sept. 28) night at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre after the game went into overtime following a 3-3 tie at the end of the third period.

Stayner notched the only goal of the first period to take a 1-0 lead heading into the second frame.

Alliston’s Jakob Power put the Hornets on the scoreboard at 2:25 into the second period on an unassisted goal.

Cole Turcotte got his first of the game at the midway mark in the second.

It was a tied game when Stayner scored five minutes later.

The Siskins scored at just a minute into the final period, but it was again tied up when Turcotte got his second of the game with just over two minutes remaining on the clock.

Neither team could score the tie breaker and the game went into a five minute three-on-three overtime period.

The Siskins scored at just 33 seconds into OT to win the game.

“We started out strong and it was an even game throughout,” said Hornets forward, Cole Turcotte. “In overtime we made a little mistake and they capitalized on it and put it in the back of the net. It’s always a battle against them and it’s always a great game to go to. I would say it was a pretty even game. We were pulling ahead – we’ve just got to capitalize and make sure our mistakes don’t get caught in the back of our net.”

The Hornets have a lot of new players on the squad this season.

“We’re a young group – everyone’s working together now,” Cole said. “We’re looking good and looking to build on it every day we come to the rink and get better.”

The loss leaves the Hornets with a 3-2 record including one overtime loss.

The Hornets will be back on home ice this Friday (Oct. 7) to host the Caledon Golden Hawks.

The puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
