The Alliston Hornets picked up four more points over the weekend with back-to-back wins, at home and on the road.

The Hornets hosted the Huntsville Otters on Friday (Dec. 2) night at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre (NTRC) in a physical game that saw a lot of hard-hitting action.

In the first period, the Alliston squad took an early lead when Jakob Power scored at 1:09 into the game. That was followed by goals from Adam Hoppe and Jack Micone.

Huntsville fought back scoring two goals late in the period.

It was a tie game in the second period when the Otters hit the back of the Alliston net at the 16:49 mark in the frame.

Alliston defenceman, Nolan Drury gave the Hornets the lead at the midway mark in the period.

It was again tied up when the Otters scored just three minutes later.

Micone got his second of the game and the game-winner when he notched a goal at 13:55 and the Hornets kept up the defence to take a 5-4 win.

It was a rough game from the start and things really heated up in the third period when an Otters player was ejected from the game after sucker-punching an Alliston player and dropping him to the ice. The Otters player was assessedwith fighting aggressor, fighting instigator, fighting, and deliberate injury.

“It was a little scrambly at first,” said Hornets forward Jack Micone after the game. “There was a lot of hits and a lot of dirty stuff – that takes a lot of penalties. We got a couple of goals on a powerplay so that made up for it. The first period I thought we played really good hockey. In the second period we kind of let up the gas and let them back in the game and tie it up. Usually when we play them the score is a lot higher. This time they came out hard. We didn’t respond until the third period. Luckily our goalie bailed us out – Kevin [Halloran] had a really good game. The third period we got the goal to get ahead but we let them come right back into the game and they got the tying goal but we responded again. I think next time we’ll have to limit our giveaways. Huntsville is always a physical team, they’ve got a lot of big boys on that team and they come out hitting on every shift.”

The following night (Sat. Dec. 3) the squad travelled to Orillia to take on the Terriers.

Alliston’s Adam Hoppe and Andrew Maltby got the only goals of the first period.

Orillia scored just a minute into the second. Connor Hiles got the third Alliston goal at the mid-way mark in the frame.

Hoppe got his second of the night late in the third period.

Will Millington got the last goal of the evening just 24 seconds later to give the Hornets a 5-1 win.

After the weekend, the Hornets are still in second place in the North Carruthers Division standings with 31 points – five points behind the first-place Stayner Siskins.

The Hornets have a big game this weekend when they travel to Stayner to take on the Siskins on Thursday, Dec. 8.

They return to home ice on Friday, Dec. 9, to host the Innisfil Spartans at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
