Another local student was the recipient of the 2013 Tim Hortons scholarship program last week.
Holly Landry of Alliston was awarded with a cheque for $1,000 for her commitment to giving back to the community.
“It feels good. It’s going to help with my education, so that’s awesome,” she said.
Landry is headed off to Brescia University College in London, ON to study food and nutrition and said the scholarship will go a long way in helping her get through her first year of school.
In order to be considered for the scholarship, Landry had to show that she played an important role in the community.
“We had to write an essay, so I just tried to make it as interesting, funny and different as I could,” she said.
Landry has worked at Tim Hortons for three years and said the job has helped her on more ways than one.
“It has been good and has taught me a lot,” she said. “I used to be extremely shy and this job has helped me out a lot with that and changed the way I talk to people.”
Entering its ninth year, the program has helped more than 1,000 students across Canada and the United States with more than $1 million awarded thus far. This year another $220,000 will be distributed among 220 deserving students.
“We are delighted to present Holly with the 2013 Team Tim Hortons Scholarship,” said Isabell MacRae, Tim Hortons restaurant owner in Alliston. “I am proud of her commitment to this community and the desire to pursue post-secondary education. We are happy that Tim Hortons can help fulfill their future goals and wish them much success.”
