All–Stars from the Alliston Minor Softball Association (AMSA) took on Nottawasaga OPP ‘DARE’ officers in The Hit & Run Community Softball Challenge last Saturday.
The event, co-organized by The Times, was a tremendous success, with many community members, including OPP Inspector Dirk Cockburn, Mayor Rick Milne, and Ward 1 Councillor Marc Biss in attendance.
Coaching for the All–Stars was: Head Coach – Brent Brooks; Asst Coach – Mike Frank, Asst Coach – Joe Lohrbach, Asst Coach – Dave Tucci.
All–Star team members were: Steven Sorozan, Tanner Frank, Grace Rodriguez, Curtis Lawton, Joe Tucci, Nick Tucci, Will Woodley, Alex Woodley, Megan Brooks, Julian Lohrbach, Stephen Phillips, Braedon Karrandjas, Keira bui, Brody Ott, Braedon Gabrek, Brady Austen and Laura Wallace.
The exhibition game took place at Doner Diamond (Riverdale Park) and the final score was 13–11 for the OPP.
Keeping track of the hits an swings was Jenn Hines:
“The Saturday challenge between the AMSA All-Stars and the OPP Dare officers was enjoyable to watch.
The first few innings were evenly matched. A spectacular catch in centre field by Curtis Lawton ended the OPP drive in the second inning to keep the score close. Officer Jeff hit a beauty – a home run in the third inning to have his team up by two runs.
The officers dominated the fourth inning with five runs earned. The All-Stars rallied in the sixth with fantastic defensive play and smart base running to end with five more runs.
Inning seven saw the OPP team earning one last run and an opportunity for the All-Stars. The officers managed to get their man! The final score was 13–11 for team OPP”.
The OPP and The Times are planning an exhibition volleyball game – with the cops vs. the kids once again – for later this fall. Watch for details if you’d like to take part.
