Lisle area councillor Scott Anderson has once again called for an expanded accounting of the expenditures on Adjala-Tosorontio’s Canada Day.
After deputy mayor Mary Small Brett reported on the success of this year’s Canada Day celebrations at the township municipal offices Monday night, Anderson asked that council require the Canada Day committee to report any “in kind” donations from local businesses in its accounts.
Other council members argued that the Canada Day committee, which is organized by the township residents’ committee, was not a committee of council and not subject to township council control.
Deputy mayor Doug Little said that he did not see the purpose of Anderson’s request. “I don’t see us asking for report from organizations which use our parks for one time events like the May 24 ball tournament in Lisle.”
Anderson said that he saw the Canada Day event as different from those events because it is sanctioned by the township and has council representation on the committee.
Mayor Tom Walsh brought the discussion to an end. “I think that it’s time to move to land use planning.”
