It is hard to believe after an amazing start to the fall that winter-like conditions were upon us last weekend. Now is a good time to perform a maintenance check on your vehicle to prepare for winter driving conditions, including tires, windshield wipers and a pre-winter tune-up. Take the time to make sure your winter survival kit is well stocked including a snow brush/ice scrapper. Always remember to have a fully charged cell phone with you in the event you find yourself stranded and make sure you let your family know where you are at all times. When it comes to winter driving conditions, follow the advice from the Ministry of Transportation: STAY ALERT – Weather conditions can change quickly, placing extra demands on your vehicle and your driving skills. Keep your focus on the road and on other vehicles. Eliminate all distractions and make sure you are well rested. SLOW DOWN – Always drive according to weather conditions. Keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you to avoid having to brake suddenly on a slippery surface. STAY IN CONTROL – Make sure you know how to handle your vehicle in all weather conditions. Check the MTO website www.ontario.ca/511 and follow the Twitter feeds of 511 Ontario before heading out.
