The Alliston Athletics were well represented in the North Dufferin Baseball League’s annual All-Star game held in Mansfield on Saturday, July 6. It was the second year in a row that Mansfield hosted the game. Last year a torrential downpour flooded the field and the games were called off after playing less than one half of an inning, so organizers thought it was only fitting to give Mansfield another shot.
The day started with the Senior Division game at 1 p.m. with 40 players from 12 Senior League teams taking part. The East division was represented by players from the Aurora Jays, Barrie Angels, Bolton Brewers, Midland Indians, Nobletone Cornhuskers, and the Orangeville giants. West division players included representatives from the Angus Black Sox, Clearview Orioles, Ivy Leafs, Lisle Astros, Mansfield Cubs and the New Lowell Knights. A the end if the final inning, the East division left with a 5–3 win. The Junior Game got underway at 3 p.m. Representing the Alliston Athletics were Adrian Reid, Mac Sealy, Jordan Brewer, and Zack Riddell.
This year the Junior players were divided with players from the same team put on opposite teams in the All-Star game – just to make it interesting. For some players, it was their first chance to bat against one of their own pitchers. At the end of nine innings the game ended in a 2–2 tie.
The Athletics will be back on their home diamond at Riverdale Park this coming weekend (Sunday, July 13, for a regular scheduled game. The first pitch is slated for 8 p.m.
