A sixth inning rally brought the Alliston Athletics back to take the win over the Barrie Red Sox Tuesday night at Riverdale Park in Alliston.

The 6 p.m. game went three innings with no scoring despite several good hits and men on base.

Alliston pitcher Dave Blanch ended the second inning with two strike-outs to retire the side after the Barrie squad managed to get a man on second and third base.

Geoff Campbell started it off when he drove in Dave Blanch on a triple to deep right field to start the scoring for Alliston in the fourth inning.

Alliston’s Jordan Brewer crossed the plate in the bottom of the fifth bringing in the second Athletics run on a double from Mac Sealy.

The Barrie squad tied it up in the top of the sixth with two runs brought in after a double advanced the players around the bases.

Another two-base hit brought in a Red Sox runner to give Barrie a lead before the inning ended.

It was the sixth inning that made the difference for the Alliston squad and the team turned it around beginning with Geoff Campbell stealing third base to place the Athletics in scoring position.

With the bases loaded Colton Hollema hit to deep left field to bring in two Alliston runs.

The bases were again loaded up when an Alliston batter took the walk to first.

The winning run came on a single from Adrian Reid that drove in Hollema to give the squad a one-run advantage.

“I thought it was a great game,” said coach Al Riddell. “It was a come from behind win – the boys kept their heads.”

It was a well played game despite a few squabbles and one Barrie player being tossed for offensive comments on the field.

“Our boys played a good clean game,” Riddell said. “Games like that are a good confidence builder.”

The win brings the Athletics record to 5–5–1 for the season and gives them a fourth place in the North Dufferin Baseball League standings.

The Athletics will host the Barrie Red Sox on Tuesday, July 9, at Riverdale Park in Alliston.

The first pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
