Bicycle officers stop theft from vehicle

On May 27th at 11 p.m., the Nottawasaga OPP bicycle patrol officers were in the Township of Essa when they noticed two young males on Sandy Lane walking away from a parked vehicle in a driveway with the passenger door open and the interior light illuminated.  As the officers approached the two males, they fled on foot from the scene through neighbouring backyards.

Officers caught up to one of the males and arrested him; the second male was located at his residence.

Both males are young persons aged 15 and 16 years old brother’s from Essa Township, they are both charged with the following offences:

• Trespass/Prowl by Night, Criminal Code of Canada

• Theft under $5000, Criminal Code of Canada

• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Criminal Code of Canada

• Person under 19-Consuming liquor, Liquor Licence Act of Ontario.

The sixteen year old was released with an upcoming court date of July 2 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie and the 15 year old was held for a bail hearing.
