Bombshell Battalion invade Britain for their 2nd bout of the season

April 4, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Hot off the heels of their season opener, the Renegade Derby Dames are at it again this weekend, when the Bombshell Battalion travels to Little Britain, Ontario on Sunday to take on Peterborough Roller Derby (PRD).

The double-header, hosted by Lindsay Roller Derby, will be their first ever home bout, with Lindsay going up against Northumberland Roller Derby. Lindsay visited the Renegade Derby Dames last summer to battle the Bombshells in their infancy, which lead to a sweeping victory for the home team, but it will be interesting to see what they can do against another newcomer. Both leagues were formed with the assistance of Peterborough Roller Derby, so you could almost say that the event, “Big Hittin’ in Little Britain,” will be a family affair.

The Bombshells will hit the track for the headliner bout against the Jamazons of PRD, a team with a varied roster that includes both “fresh” skaters and veterans like Lucid Lou, who skates for multiple leagues and has previously wreaked havoc against the Bombshell Battalion in November and again in March. Other skaters to watch include Extermi-knitter, Devochka, The Mad Impaler, and Charleigh Smashlin, not to mention alternate 12 Gage who also made a strong impression on the Bombshells in their last two bouts.

The Bombshells are gunning for a win and are united and hungry for blood going into their second bout of the season. This will be the first bout for Bashin’ Blonde and Anne of Grim Gables, who will be joined by their fellow “freshies” Grizzly Locks, Ethyl A. Mean, Jam’nTaz, and Katie KO, who no doubt learned volumes from their first bout last month against Durham Region’s Atom Smashers. Leading the way will be Assistant Captain Pink Slamminade, along with seasoned RDD skaters Go-Dive-A, Ali Bam Her Slam Her, Keri Daway, and The Mighty Q. Rounding out the roster are Monster Muffin, a first year skater who has shown serious chops in her first two bouts, and Gretta Go Go, returning to the roster ready to block for the Battalion.

Win or lose on Sunday, the Bombshell Battalion won’t have much rest as they head home, with a double header of their own right around the corner. The Brute Fourth double header will take place at the Alliston Memorial Arena May 4th, with the Bombshells taking on the Greater Sudbury Tatas, and the Misfit Militia going up against Les Duchesses of Roller Derby Quebec. Tickets for Brute Fourth are on sale now with event representing the beginning of what will be, without question, the most jam-packed year of derby the Renegades have seen yet. With their founding team the Misfits sitting 8th in the rankings of over 100 Canadian derby teams, there are high hopes for the Bombshells to make this the season they hone their skills and carve out a name for themselves in the derby world.
