‘Bootcamp for Sarah’ helps local family

On Sunday, Jan. 29, a fundraiser for 7-year-old Sarah Hamby and her family will take place at the Tottenham Community Fitness Centre. The afternoon-long event is intended to have a focus on fitness for all ages. Tara Vavala will lead the exercise portion, and participants will raise funds through registration fees, donations and a silent auction.
Sarah was first diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in October 2012, two months before her fourth birthday. After a routine blood test in July 2016, the family received more heartbreaking news after tests revealed the cancer had returned. A GoFundMe account has been setup in her name, by family friend Jane Cathers, with almost $2,000 of the $25,000 goal currently raised (www.gofundme.com/2vaqlw4). The funds will be used to support the family through Sarah’s hospital visits, which sometimes last for months at a time. On Jan. 29, registration will take place from noon until 12:45 p.m., and the event runs from 1-2 p.m. See the event Facebook page for more information.
