Every body can be a strong body at McAdams Fitness in Tottenham.
Founder, Dan McAdams, a Poliquin Level 2 Strength Coach, DTS Lvl 1 Olympic Lifting Coach, TRX and Kettlebell instructor, knows how to “build a better you”.
McAdams uses energy systems and strength-specific proven training exercises to help his clients lose weight, stay independent or take their fitness game to the next level.
From teens to seventy-somethings, McAdams says, “anyone can benefit from added strength”.
McAdams works with his clients one-on-one, in a precisely designed gym.
Each new client receives a full physical strength assessment and McAdams says he can tell within seconds where his clients need to focus.
Dividing the body into four quadrants – and by training push, pull, squat, and hinge movements – McAdams looks at each area of his clients physicality and prescribes a workout based on goals set by both client and trainer.
McAdams’ program sheets track repetitions and sets, rest periods, lifting tempos and other pertinent details (including notes on sleeping, and past injury) – designed to see immediate improvement, and hit short and long-term goals.
“The data we collect from these program sheets is hard evidence that the program is working,” McAdams told The Times. “I review, reassess and rewrite the program every four to six weeks to ensure program success.”
A success that a lot of Tottenham residents say is predictably achievable.
“It’s not that I couldn’t lose weight, but keeping it off and going the distance to hit my ultimate goal was always a challenge,” said Rachel Boltelli, owner of Tottenham Health Foods. “Dan has helped me focus on proper nutrition and highly effective weight training programs. Before founding McAdams Fitness, Dan worked as an armed guard for Brinks for six years. He had previously studied Police Foundations in college, where hill-drills, weight training and strength testing was mandatory.
McAdams kept the trend going by working out at the Jewish Community Centre (JCC) in Toronto (although he is not Jewish himself), and was recognized for his abilities in the gym.
That led to McAdams pursuing a certification as a Personal Trainer, through CanFitPro. He was later hired by the JCC, and remains training there two days a week.
McAdams has always been interested in fitness. Since the age of 15, you could find him in the gym or studying his favorite art form – karate, specifically Shōrin-ryū (one of the major modern Okinawan martial arts and one of the oldest styles of karate) for 11 years.
McAdams knows strength training has been “at the core of everything” he’s done, and so pursuing professional certification at the highest levels in the discipline was a logical next move for the athlete.
You can say that Dan McAdams is hooked on being strong.
McAdams received his Poliquin Level 2 certification in June of 2013, and moved to Tottenham later that year.
“My wife and I were actually looking for a property in Beeton, but came through Tottenham and we both thought it was a cute, little town,” McAdams said.
They never did make it up to Beeton.
The floor plan of the McAdams family home accommodates his current client base, but Dan says a property, with room to grow, and on the outskirts of town, is his ultimate dream.
“I’d like a full fitness centre, a dedicated space where I can teach and train,” McAdams said. “The building would have an indoor track and a strength centre, allowing me to work with various athletic associations and disciplines.”
McAdams says it will be an all-in-one centre, with physiotherapy on site, and a comprehensive gym without “all the machines”.
McAdams himself, who has a lean body composition, says he works out three or four times a week, and gets his heart rate up through sprinting. His clients can expect to be in the gym one to three times a week, depending on their program, with homework assignments to complete in between visits.
McAdams will also work with his clients to provide diet and supplementation advice for optimal results leading to healthy lifestyle habits.
