Where will you be on Saturday May 4th? If you’re not going to be at the Tottenham Community Centre, you are going to miss the party of the year – the 35th Annual CRIC Car Draw & Dance! C.R.I.C. (Tottenham and District Community Recreation Improvement Committee) is once again hosting an amazing event featuring live music, playoff hockey on a big screen, food, over $41,000 in prizes and a community gathering that rivals any other.
This long-standing community event has done much for Tottenham socially and more importantly by supporting the recreational facility and program activities in the area. In fact, the very Community Centre that will be housing this event was the original motivation for founding the Committee over 35 years ago. Since then C.R.I.C., made up entirely of local volunteers, has been directing funds raised to help address the needs of the Tottenham district through an ever expanding variety of public facilities, social programs, and development activities.
Ask any of the current, or past, committee volunteers and they will tell you it is simply Tottenham working for Tottenham.
Committee chairperson, Wayne Caldwell, is always excited about the prospect of another year. “Our most recent few years have been quite successful – particularly in the context of the extremely positive feedback we have received from attendees regarding their enjoyment. So we haven’t really changed too much in the format for this year’s version.”
If the support of the local business community is any indication, this must be THE event of the year in Tottenham with a comprehensive list of sponsors for the extensive list of prizes, totalling over $41,000 in value, to be awarded during the dance. Honda Canada and Orangeville Honda once again assisted in providing the grand prize 2013 Honda Civic LX, valued at more than $24,000. The back of each ticket is a veritable “whos’ who” of retailers and businesses from all over town.
You don’t have to wander very far around Tottenham to get your ticket – Home Hardware, Foodland, Man of Yorke, Tottenham Cleaners, and many others. Caldwell also confirmed the same ticket format as recent years, “$60 per ticket and each ticket will admit four adults into the dance. The traditional elimination draw format will be used so the number of tickets available to buy is limited to 1,000.”
“We are very happy to have the Carmella Long Band and DJ Rob Boyle back again this year to keep everyone entertained and dancing the night away.”
This is a true community event where neighbours and friends have enjoyed some time together for over three decades and to have so many good things come out of this as a result is simply sweet icing on a large cake. Chances are that if you live in, or around, Tottenham you have been affected by their efforts. C.R.I.C. has sponsored countless recreation facilities and programs over the years including Keogh Park, Coventry Park, Tottenham Tennis Club, Mel Mitchell Field, the South Simcoe Arts Council, and many other great programs.
Where else are you going to enjoy a great night out AND build community value AND maybe win a new car!?
