Now accepting nominations for its 13 award categories, the Charter Champion Awards recognizes various local food and agriculture achievements and initiatives.
Modeled after the vision and six principles outlined in the Simcoe County Food and Agriculture Charter, the Charter Champion Awards were created to show appreciation and celebrate the many individuals and organizations in our community that work towards building a fair and sustainable food system for our region.
“The Simcoe County Food and Agriculture Charter builds awareness of the importance of a healthy and sustainable food system for our region and highlights the exciting opportunities for everyone to play a role in achieving this vision,” said County of Simcoe Warden Cal Patterson, Chair of the Simcoe County Food and Agriculture Charter Steering Committee. “The Charter Champion Awards, on the other hand, were created to acknowledge the many residents who have already been doing this important work for quite some time now.”
Best Community Garden, Best Event Celebrating Culture and Local Food, Best Local Food Restaurant/Caterer, Young Farmer’s Award, and a Community Appreciation Award for Work Improving Equal Access to healthy and locally-grown food are only a few examples of the types of work the Charter Champion Awards seek to recognize.
