As part of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board’s student leadership program, more than 100 students and staff from four Catholic high schools, including 25 students from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Tottenham, are currently travelling abroad.

This unique “service learning” program provides students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to earn high schools credits, while volunteering in underdeveloped countries.

The students and staff lfrom STA left for Kenya on May 3rd and are returning on May 18th.

“Our secondary students and staff are celebrating Catholic Education Week on four continents – here at home and in Asia, Africa and South America,” said Brian Beal Director of Education. “Travelling abroad provides our students with an invaluable learning experience that we know will transform their lives.”

High schools in the Simcoe Muskoka District School Board have been offering this program for the past five years, enabling hundreds of students from across the region a chance to experience learning in an innovative and hands-on way.
