Civics eliminate Meaford in preliminary round

The New Tecumseth Civics hosted the Meaford Knights during game three of their best of five GMHL playoff series. The Civics switched their home venue to the Tottenham Community Centre arena for this game. The Civics pulled off a 3-0 win to eliminate the Knights in the preliminary round and will now go on to the quarter-finals.

The New Tecumseth Civics have advanced to the quarter-final round of the Greater Metro Hockey League playoffs after eliminating the Meaford Knights in three games during preliminary competition.
The preliminary series got under way Feb. 19, with game one ending with a 4-2 win for the Civics.
Game two took place in Meaford the next day, Monday, Feb. 20.
The Civics got the edge in the best of five series with a 5-4 win in that game.
The series moved to Tottenham at the Community Centre arena for game three on Feb. 22.
A full house of fans turned out for the game including a full contingent of elementary school students.
The Civics took an early lead in game three scoring twice in the first period on goals from Aidan Parker, on a power play, and Daniel Golba.
New Tec’s Brendan Barron got the only goal in the second period when he put one to the back of the Meaford net must 46 seconds into the period.
There was no scoring in the third and the Civics left the ice with a 3-0 shutout and the right to advance to the next round.
Teams from Parry Sound, Niagara, and St. George have also advanced to the quarter-final round which narrows the field down to eight teams.
Four teams will make it through to the semi-final round with the two remaining teams going to the championship to play for the Russell Cup.
