COMMENT – spring has sprung

April 11, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Nothing feels better than the warm sun on your face. Nothing smells better than the green grass growing all around. As the perennials poke their sleepy leaves out from beneath the earth and the last of the snow quietly slips away, it becomes official – spring is finally upon us.

Escaping winters icy clutches is like escaping a prison sentence for me. As I do not partake in winter activities (skating, skiing, snowmobiling) winter traps me indoors, forcing me in front of the television set.

During the winter months I eat more and lounge more – becoming generally lethargic and sullen. My skin and hair suffer from the dry environment created by the furnace (which never seems to stop starting up) and my attitude becomes poor, as my Vitamin D store slowly leaches from my veins.

But all of this won’t be a problem for the next few months. The sun has returned overhead, bordered by blue skies; the birds are singing a happier song; and if you look closely, the trees are squeezing their trunks tightly to force out those pretty little buds that will eventually become the colours of fall.

Spring has sprung; the grass is ris’; I wonder where the party is!
