Community to celebrate 9th Annual Physician Appreciation Day

Is there a doctor in the house? Thankfully, in our community there are several doctors, providing health care in their clinics, in nursing homes, to patients at home and in the hospital.

For nine years, a local community committee has been working to ensure that local physicians know they are appreciated and valued for the work they do. Originally created as a task force between the hospital and Town of New Tecumseth, in 2004, the Committee changed to become a group of concerned community residents and businesses, hospital representatives and area municipal councillors. Adjala-Tosorontio, Essa, Innisfil, New Tecumseth and Stevenson Memorial Hospital provide the majority of the funding to the AAPRC.

Last year, the Committee rebranded itself as the Alliston & Area Physician Recruitment Committee (AAPRC) and identified new ways to recruit Physicians to “Practice, Play and Prosper”  in the Alliston Area.

The AAPRC has also been holding an annual Physician Appreciation Day since 2005 and was perhaps the second community in the Province to do so. The date has been the last Monday in May and this year is May 27.

“We know that local physicians have been pouring time, energy and heart into the provision of high quality healthcare for our community and we have encouraged all residents and businesses to become involved in showing them well deserved appreciation,” said Aileen Dresser, Chair of the AAPRC.

“Areas municipalities have declared Physician Appreciation Day each year and we know patients have sent special messages or items of thanks ,” said Dresser. “The most important thing is for our existing physicians to know that we value them and want them to continue to be an integral part of our community,” she concluded.

Local businesses, schools, churches, service clubs and residents are asked to join the effort and acknowledge the work of our family physicians and specialists on Monday, May 27.
