Council has approved an 8¢/kilometer mileage allowance increase, effective April 1.
Council and staff who are reimbursed for mileage as part of their compensatory packages will now get 51¢/kilometer travelled, over the previous 43¢/kilometer, approved in 2007.
The last mileage compensation review, completed in April of 2007, saw an increase to the mileage allowance rate from 37¢ to 43¢ per kilometre, with gasoline prices being up to $1/litre at that time.
The new rate will likely result in an increased cost of $7,371 in 2014 for the town, based on an anticipated 92,140 kilometres budgeted for travel.
In 2013, the total mileage budget was $37,908 of which $27,961.60 was expended. For 2014, the mileage budget has been set at $39,620.00.
