Council Honours local hero

May 14, 2014   ·   0 Comments

On Monday May 12th, New Tecumseth councillors and Town of New Tecumseth staff welcomed Colin Klutz, the 2013 911 Youth Award winner. When Colin was 6 years old, he helped to save his mother’s life, by calling 911 after she suddenly began to choke at the dinner table. Colin, a resident of Tottenham, followed the instructions given by the Georgian Central Ambulance dispatcher and had his mother bend over and cough, dislodging the stuck food, saving her life. Colin also helped to keep his mother calm (and stayed clam himself) until help arrived. At Monday’s meeting, members of the New Tecumseth Fire Department, Station #3 Tottenham, were on hand to honour this local hero. In full dress blues, Colin was presented with a certificate of recognition from the Town of New Tecumseth by Fire Chief / Director of Emergency Services, Dan Heydon. “We are very proud of what you’ve done,” Heyon said as he presented the certificate. Colin was also honoured last month by the County of Simcoe.
