Adjala-Tosorontio council is moving forward with plans to place accessible playground equipment in Williams Park in Hockley.

The request came from the township’s Accessibility Advisory Committee after receiving several requests from parents of children with disabilities.

Township staff ail come back with a report on possible suggestions of equipment for the committee.

Councillor Doug Little noted that Wasaga Beach has recently constructed a park with accessible playground equipment. It has spent over $50,000 on portable accessible mats which allow people with walkers and wheelchairs to access the beach.

“I see that there is money from the province and federal government towards accessible parks. Hopefully, we can receive some of these funds,” said Little.

In related news, council learned that the trail at the Warden’s park which was paved to improve accessibility in part  has been completed and paving of the parking lot  which will aid in accessibility will be completed later this summer.
