County heading towards restructuring county meetings

June 21, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Simcoe County is heading towards revamping its meeting structure which would see the present standing committee structure replaced with a committee of whole structure currently used by many local municipalities in the county.

The three standing committees heard presentations on the changes which would see county council meet twice per month with a council meeting followed by a committee of the whole meeting which all county councillors would attend.

Deputy warden Harry Hughes said that the change would allow for greater participation by all members of council and would hopefully allow for more a more informed council.

He noted that “it will allow for all business matters to be reported twice per month and allow for county council to act more quickly on matters.”

There were a limited number of questions about the change which would see the two meetings held on the second and fourth Tuesday of most months.

County council will look at the proposal at its next meeting and, if approved, would be started this September on a trial basis. Council will evaluate the trial in January.
