Simcoe County continues to reap a financial benefit from the annual sales of wood from its forests.
County councillors learned Tuesday that the sale of wood from 16 parcels will bring in almost $500,000 in revenue this spring.
Annually, the county thins between 500 and 600 hectares of its forest in three sales which are held in the spring, summer and fall of the year.
County forester Graeme Davis said that the prices for wood continue to range from fair to excellent with sales of hardwood especially attracting a lot of interest and increased sale prices.
All revenues from the sale of the wood is put into the Forestry Reserve which is used for continued forestry operation and the purchase of additional forest lands.
