The Alliston Coyotes are leading the Central Division of the Greater Metro Hockey League after winning two more games and posting a 6–0 record for the season so far.
The squad travelled to Orangeville on Wednesday, September 30, to take on the Ice Crushers.
After giving up a single goal in the first period, the Alliston team tied it up in the second frame on a goal from Vasilii Zhizhenkov.
They were again trailing when Orangeville scored a late period goal for a 2–1 lead going in the third period.
That’s when the Coyotes turned it up a notch and scored three unanswered goals to end the game 4–2.
Alliston goals came from Dmitri Russu, a powerplay goal from Austin Cunningham, and an empty netter from Russu.
The Coyotes returned to home ice at the New Tecumseth Recereaion Centre the following night for their regular Thursday night game against he Knights of Meaford.
It didn’t take long for the Coyotes to set the tone of the game scoring six unanswered goals in the first period and shutting out the Knights attack.
The second period saw the Alliston squad blow the game wide open with five more goals before the period was half over.
The Knights finally managed to get one of their own at the midway mark in the frame.
Meaford managed to score one more in the third period but the game was long over by that time and the Coyotes left with a 12–3 win.
The win places Coyotes at the top of the Central Division undefeated for the season.
The Bradford Bulls are in second place with a 4–1 record followed by the Oshawa River Kings with a 4–1 record and eight points.
In the rest of the League, the teams to watch are the Kingsville Kings of the South Division who are undefeated after 7 games, and the Temiscaming Titans of the North Division who are yet to lose after six games.
The Coyotes will be back on home ice tonight (Thur., Oct. 8) to host the Shelburne Sharks at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
