The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation took to the airwaves on 92.1 myFM for their inaugural “Champions for Care” radiothon at Zehrs in Alliston last week. For 12 straight hours, myFM and Stevenson Foundation volunteers broadcasted live from Zehrs where they encouraged people to call in to tonight or stop by for a barbecue lunch and donate in person. The Foundation is hoping the event will help create some awareness and much needed funds for equipment needs at Stevenson Memorial Hospital. Organizers said the government funds less than 20 per cent of equipment and facility needs at the hospital, leaving the foundation with the task of raising enough funds to balance out the needs each year. Last year the foundation raised over $1.1 million to help improve the hospital that serves roughly 55,000 patients per year.
