Economic Development Committee recommends $35K in facade improvement grants

The Economic Development Advisory Committee has recommended to council that facade improvement grant applications, under the Community Improvement Plan (CIP), be approved for 41 Main Street West, Beeton, Cremahh, in the amount of $15,000; 19 Victoria Street East, Alliston, Circle Theatre, in the amount of $17,500; and 1 Victoria Street West, Alliston, Brisco’s Mattress World, in the amount of $2,500 be approved.

• 41 Main Street West, Beeton: The purpose of the application is to make upgrades to the building (Building Code Grant Application) with respect to fire and safety and the provision of accessible washroom and wheelchair ramp at the rear of the building. If approved, the $15,000, the maximum allowable amount, would also allow for upgrades to the existing exterior facade. The total amount of Facade Improvement work required at this location is $48,273.60.

• 19 Victoria Street East, Alliston: The purpose of the application is to install a free standing ticket booth, two new poster display cases and patch and clean up the brick on the front face of the building. The total amount of work proposed is estimated at $45,000. Owners of the Circle Theatre are also seeking the maximum allowable grant for signage improvements, $2,500, with total costs estimated at $12,500.

• 1 Victoria Street West, Alliston: The purpose of the application is to remove two existing sign boxes and prepare the wall surface in preparation of a new panel sign and to install a blade sign adjacent to the new panel sign. The design and size of the blade sign were discussed and it was recommended that the signs be hot dip galvanized and electroplated for maintenance free, long lasting signs. The total amount of signage improvement related work completed is estimated at approximately $7,500.
