Epilepsy: The month of March has a whole new meaning

March 21, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Throughout the month of March, members from Epilepsy Simcoe County will be educating people in the area about the severity of epilepsy. Epilepsy Simcoe County is a non-profit organization that supports those individuals of Simcoe County who have been diagnosed with the disorder. The organization helps those individuals with epilepsy through a variety of ways. Education, awareness, advocacy, and support programs are some methods that have informed families and friends about epilepsy. With all the support Epilepsy Simcoe County has provided for the disorder, it continues to promote awareness.

The organization has worked extremely hard spreading awareness, and is currently working towards making March, the Epilepsy Awareness Month. Epilepsy Simcoe County has been promoting the idea of Epilepsy Awareness Month to municipalities throughout the area. The city of Barrie has proclaimed March as awareness month, and recently Epilepsy Simcoe County has asked for the Town of Innisfil to follow suit. The government of Canada has helped spread awareness by declaring March 26th, as Purple Day.

On Purple Day, Epilepsy Simcoe County will be educating individuals about epilepsy throughout its surrounding communities. Purple Day, previously known as Bill C-278, has received Royal Assent and is extremely beneficial for spreading awareness. Purple Day was created to eliminate any myths about epilepsy. All proceeds are directed towards helping those Canadians who are living with the disorder, and to increase medical research. On March 26th, support Epilepsy Simcoe County and wear purple to help spread awareness.
