Essa council has approved the purchase of a new fire truck with a 55 foot ladder apparatus for use with multiple story buildings in the township.
The township gave approval to the purchase of the stock demo Pierce Fire Truck at a cost of $595,015 at last week’s meeting. It replaces a similar 55 foot ladder truck that has reached the end of its life expectancy.
The choice of the Pierce vehicle came after the township fire chief and two senior fire officers with the township review we vehicles from four fire vehicle companies.
The Pierce vehicle was $10,000 more expensive than a similar vehicle from Dependable Emergency Vehicles. But the warranty was more extensive with the Pierce vehicle and had a number of factory options which made it more suitable for town and rural operations.
“I know that its a lot of money but it should serve the township for the next 20 years,” said township fire chief Paul Macdonald.
