Expansion at Base Borden

May 16, 2013   ·   0 Comments

On May 10th, ground was broken at Canadian Forces Base Borden for the expansion of the Canadian Forces School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. This expansion will facilitate the continued learning of military personnel training for electrical and mechanical engineering officers and various technical trades specializing in vehicle, weapons, electronic-optronic and material. “The turning of the sod to start the expansion of the Canadian Forces School of Electrical Mechanical Engineering building exemplifies the Government’s commitment to investing in the Canadian Armed Forces,” said Dr. Kellie Leitch, Member of Parliament for Simcoe–Grey. “Infrastructure projects like these are an economic boost to the local communities.” The existing weapons technician training facility at the Canadian Forces School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering will expand to enable more efficient training on the M-777 artillery gun and other weapons systems. The overall value of this project is estimated at approximately $2.75 million and was awarded to Montieth Building Group Ltd. from Orillia, on April 23th. The Canadian Forces School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering produces world-class Regular and Reserve Force electrical and mechanical technicians and officers in order to provide the maintenance support needed for the Canadian Armed Forces to conduct operations at home and abroad. The school offers 54 different technical courses for approximately 900 students annually.
