The TNT Express Atom division squad won their first game of the season when they travelled to Orangeville and delivered a 49–19 win over the Outlaws.
The Express led the game from the early going when Edwin Haley scored two touchdowns followed by another Express TD from Brison Atherley.
Going into a strong offensive mode in the second half, quarterback Edwin Haley tried the throwing game with a nice completion to Jake Barker. Running back Lucas Snowdon put on the afterburners in the third quarter to run for a first down and drop the Express into a good field position.
That was followed up by another first down run by Atherly on the next play. Atherly got his second touchdown in the third quarter when he ran for 50 yards to score.
The TNT squad got the two point convert when Colton Blanchard make a fingertip catch in the end zone for the extra points. Atherly got his third TD in the fourth quarter when he ran through the middle to score.
The Express played a solid game both on offence and defence with Hudson Hamelin, Luke Rideout, Matthew Salvaterra, and James Bertoni making solid plays.
This was the TNT Atoms first win of the season after getting off to a slow start with a pair of losses to Markham and the Metro Toronto Wilcats. They still have five games on the regular schedule to tip their record on the good side.
The Atoms will be back at their home field at Mel Mitchell Athletic Fields in Beeton this Sunday, June 8, when they will host the Brampton Bulldogs. The kick off is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
