The TNT Express had a tough start to the season when both the Peewee and Bantam teams suffered losses on their home turf at Mel Mitchell field in Beeton on Sunday (May 26).

Peewee

The Peewee division team faced the Metro Toronto Wildcats in the first match-up of the day that got underway with a 10 a.m. kick-off.

Scoring was opened in the second quarter when the Wildcats made a drive deep to the TNT end.

The Express defence had a solid performance with good stops by James Baskett, Ethan Foat, Jacob Moore, and Stefan Van-Batenburg Stafford.

The Toronto team managed to break through to score two more times in the half.

Returning for the second half, the Wildcats turned it up and notch on their running and throwing game to run up the score.

The Peewees had to settle for a loss to the visitors.

The Peewee division will return to their home field at Mel Mitchell on Sunday, June 2, to host the Toronto Jets. The kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Bantam

The Express Bantam team hosted the Orangeville Outlaws for an afternoon game that got underway at noon.

The Express had good success in the early going with a nice run by Ethan Irwin who carried the ball to gain some yards.

On defence, Eric Sampson and Christian D Alessandro provided some solid stops against the Orangeville attackers.

The Express found themselves deep in their own end late in the half with Justin Brewer providing some breathing room on a nice run to get out of the TNT end.

Forced into some defensive posturing in the second half, the Express were forced to punt to dig their way out of a hole when trapped on their own 20 yard line.

A kick off return later in the quarter gave the Express good field position when Cole Verlinde retuned the kick on a long run that gave the TNT squad a good place on the gridiron.

The Express couldn’t score by the time the game ended and had to settle for a 44–0 loss in their first game of the season.

The Bantams will play two road games against the Cambridge Lions and Niagara Generals before returning to their home turf at Mel Mitchell field.

They will host the Steel City Steelers on Sunday, June 16. The kick-off is scheduled for noon.
