Bantam Division
The TNT Express Bantam squad lost their weekend game to the Orangeville Outlaws in a game played at Hyland Park in Shelburne.
The Express made the trek to Shelburne on Sunday, June 23, for an 11 a.m. kick-off.
Banking on a solid season, the Express have won four in a row – they just have trouble with the Outlaws.
The Orangeville squad came out on top the last time the two teams met in game one of the regular season schedule and are the only team to beat the Express Bantams this season.
The first half put the pressure on the Express when Orangeville scored three times for a 16–0 lead.
With time running out in the second quarter the TNT responded with some good yards gained a hard drive down the field by ball carriers Justin Brewer and Joel Roberts and a first down sprint from Harash Mahbobi, but they couldn’t capitalize before the end of the half.
In defensive mode early in the third quarter, Mitchell Giglio, Chrostian DAlessandro, and Nicholas Hunter, made some good stops holding the line, with Hunter knocking down an O-ville pass attempt.
Denver Ross and Ethan Cooney had some good hits while stopping the Outlaws advance.
The final attempt to score produced some strong work on the TNT side, but they couldn’t cross the goal and the game ended 34–0 for the Orangeville team.
After the weekend the Bantams are in second place in the standings.
The Bantams will return to their home field at Mel Mitchell field in Beeton this coming Sunday, June 30, to host the Niagara Generals.
The kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Junior Varsity Division
The Express JV squad hosted the undefeated Steel City Steelers at Mel Mitchell field in Beeton.
This was a tough game from the start with the Hamilton leading 28–0 at the start of the second quarter.
The Express got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Conner Hamm caught a long pass from quarterback William Wright and crossed the goal to score.
Going into the second half the Express received the kick-off and Damion Edwards returned the ball to the 50 yard line.
After the turn over the TNT squad went into defensive mode with solid stops from Evan Parsons, Colton Doublas, Gabriel Didonato, and Neil Hall.
The Steel City steamroller kept moving and the final was 56–6 for the visitors.
The Express JV squad will be back in action this Sunday, June 30, at Mel Mitchell field in Beeton to host the Mississauga Warriors.
The kick off is scheduled for 10 a.m.
