The TNT Express Peewee division played a good game but had their hands full when the second place Markham Raiders came to Beeton.
The visitors scored two TD’s in the first quarter to lead 12-0. They followed up with two more goals in the second quarter on a run to the left down the sidelines and a wide open pass into the end zone. Going on offence, Jason Ramnauth received the kick-off and the Express started on their own 30 yard line.
Aaron McLeod-Smith had a solid gain with the ball to end the half. Putting out a good effort in the second half, TNT’s Oliver Rapin gained yards with a run through the middle and Wylie Birkett caught a pass to bring the Express down field. The Express couldn’t capitalize and the Raiders took the ball in the turn around on possession.
They scored a TD, but were denied the convert when Ryland Chisholm crashed through the line and blocked the kick attempt. With the ball back in their possession, the Express couldn’t get out of their end and were forced to punt on the fourth down.
The Express were tired in the fourth quarter but still put on a drive to score when Scott Barnett had a good run through middle followed by another gain on a run by Jeremy Mitri. Despite the late game effort, the Peewees couldn’t score and had to settle for a 43- loss to the visitors.
The Peewees are still looking for their first win this season. The squad will play their next three games on the road before returning to their home field at Mel Mitchell on July 13.
