Around 120 golfers took part in the FAB golf tournament at the Club at Bond Head on Saturday, August 11, with 155 also taking part in the after tournament dinner.
FAB is continuing to raise funds for a new leisure and training centre in Beeton to replace the existing and outdated Beeton arena.
The tournament was attended by several prominent names including former NHL hockey players, notably Wayne Carlton, former Boston Bruin who was on the winning Stanley Cup team in 1970.
“FAB is supporting a new leisure and training centre,” said tournament convener Ray Lisk. “It’s bigger than an arena. We’re trying to get that out there. We’re a multi-purpose centre with eight programming areas.”
The vision, once realized will host a variety of activities and training areas.
“We’re tied into the library,” Lisk said, “We’ve got a fitness centre, a training centre, we’ve got a multi purpose room and two stages, there’s a lot more than just an arena.”
The goal is to reach the $500,000 mark with $150,000 already raised through local events.
Plans include providing donor recognition through the sponsorship of various components of the new centre.
The golf tournament is just one of the many fundraising efforts currently underway, but the importance of creating the new centre was underscored by many in attendance who grew up in Beeton but now live elsewhere and returned to play in the tournament and support the creation of the new leisure and training centre for Beeton.
